Xacona performs a wide range of 17th, 18th and early 19th Century repertoire, the ensemble size being adapted according to the needs of each programme.
The XS programmes are performed by the core of the group: violin, oboe and basso continuo. These programmes range from explosive virtuosic Spanish XVIII century music to deep instrumental and vocal music by Bach, Handel, Mathesson, etc.
The XL programmes involve a group of 9 or 10 players (single strings, 2/3 oboes, bassoon and harpsichord), which opens up a great wealth of orchestral repertoire possibilities.
With scarcely more than these forces, we have also performed J.S.Bach's St John Passion, with soloists including counter-tenor James Bowman and soprano Eri Takahashi, and the choir of Girton College, University of Cambridge, under the direction of Dr Martin Ennis.
